- Up at nearly 3am due to Ellie wanting a bottle, then wanting to play, then wanting to snuggle and have another bottle. Ugh, that is the last time I sacrifice a nap. OK, I'm sure it won't be, but boy do I hate being up in the middle of the night. I'm not a good sleeper to begin with. Tomorrow will be a nap day for sure.
- Thinking about cancelling cable. It's too darn expensive and we really should be spending our time more productively. I think what we'd really like to do is return/exchange some of our more expensive pieces (the internet with FIOS is pretty pricey, not to mention we're currently paying for one set top box we don't even use and two others that could easily be scaled back). But since it's with FIOS, we're locked into a contract, so we'd have to pay a $179 cancellation fee to do any of that, which makes us just want to cancel the whole thing. We cancelled our Netflix subscription, too, but I suppose we could always start that up again and then we'd be saving money and still have stuff to watch. The only huge bummer would be no more So You Think You Can Dance. That's one of my favorites and so far I haven't found anywhere to watch it online.
- Ellie's been doing a lot of pulling up to standing lately, and is crawling everywhere. She's finally got the crawling motion down instead of her little inchworm move, and she's getting faster.
- Doing great with finger foods, too, I've been cutting up and sharing our foods as often as I can and so far, she seems to love it. She really likes corn.
- Cloth diapering is going OK. I like that trial programs exist, but this particular one doesn't provide enough of the diapers I really like...the diapers I don't like so much I never want to use, so to keep her in the 3 diapers that I do like takes a lot of extra washing. And I'm still a bit worried about the initial investment. I think we're probably going to hold off for now and revisit when we have another baby. If we have two in diapers at the same time, it may make financial sense to get one-size cloth diapers that I can use on both. But we'll see.
- Tommy got a promotion! Still waiting to hear on salary info, but we've been waiting on this promotion for about 6 months now, so we're very pleased...congrats, buddy! I'm proud of you.
- Too hot here, haven't even been to the pool. It's hitting mid-100's with the heat index lately. Yuck. Can definitely feel a difference in the temp of the house with the new windows, hopefully we'll get the attic fan fixed sometime this summer and really see a reduction in our energy consumption and the heat of the 2nd floor.
- Planning to clean out our hideously messy laundry room and sell some things. Anyone interested in a used fridge? What about some golf clubs? Or a TV?

Get an external TV antenna and you can watch So You Think You Can Dance to your heart's content. We bought ours for about $50 online. Not the most fun to install, if you don't like heights, though! :)
WHAT. NO WAY. How many channels do you get? I thought you guys just got like NBC or something...and how do you install it, up on the roof? I'd have to check HOA rules....
I think there is a VA law that says you have to be allowed to install satellite dishes so I would think you'd be allowed to do an antenna, esp if you do your best to make it discrete. Brian and my Dad installed a pole on the siding up near the roof and then climbed up on the roof to set the antenna on top of the pole. We used to only get one channel, but that was with an indoor antenna. We switched to the outdoor and now we get all the local networks plus some other public stations. We thought we'd get more but we're happy with just the basics. It encourages us to read or watch movies (we have Netflix) and not stress about a huge cable bill (I tend to feel like I need to maximize use when we pay for TV! haha). You probably could get more stations with a higher powered antenna, like if you spent more like $100 or so.
We have a TV antenna just sitting on our fireplace mantle next to the TV and we get all the network stations (FOX, NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS) plus a few locals :) It was like $50 at Best Buy. It's not super dependable in a storm, but it does the job! I'm sure an outside the house antenna would work just as well (if not better). Just make sure if you don't have a newer TV that you have a digital converter box too.
I'll definitely have to look into that antenna, then. All my other favorite shows are watch-able online, and since we have the Wii, we can also stream shows on the TV in the basement through HULU if we get PlayOn, which is only $40 for the first year and $20 after that. We're currently paying $100 for our cable service...*dies*
Abby, does the external antenna have to be pointing a certain direction? We actually have a dish here from the old owners, but it's on the deck, not the roof.
Yeah, there's a website that tells you what direction is optimal for most stations. Brian can definitely help you with all of this stuff if you need it. You could try the indoor one first (worked great in our condo but not in our house for whatever reason) and return it if it doesn't work. Then you could try the exterior one on the deck first and then as a last resort, plan to mount it on the roof.
Cool...I think we're just about sold on getting rid of the cable, it's so pricey :( I wish we could buy a la carte channels, we'd be good with like 4 channels lol. Any workarounds for viewing Fox News yet?
