New Toys!

So far, we really haven't needed to buy a single thing for Ellie - she's had plenty of toys from my baby shower, last Christmas, and her baptism. But lately she's been growing (*sniff sniff*) and I've noticed her getting bored more and more quickly with the toys we have in our stash. There are only so many times you put little plastic shapes into and out of a bucket before it gets old. She's also been getting so active, and looking for anything and everything to explore. Babyproofing time! Our good friends Brian and Abby were good enough to give us a gate that they no longer had a use for when they moved into their new (gorgeous!) house, and church friends gave us a whole set of linking gates which are currently in front of our TV setup in the basement (those wires are just too darn attractive). We picked up a third gate, this one a tension gate for the bottom of the basement stairs, for $15 at Once Upon a Child.

Yesterday I decided to make it my mission to pick up a few new toys to encourage her new mobility and curiosity and keep her from pulling up on all my furniture and falling over and cracking her little baby head open. Here's our loot:

Tigger version of this walker/ride-on toy: $15 at Once Upon a Child

Fisher Price activity table: $18 on Craigslist

Fisher Price piano: $15 on Craigslist

So far we only had time to play with the ride-on toy and she LOVED it. The propeller flashes lights and Tigger sings, and she loves to try and grab the (soft foam) propeller blades. Her feet are far from reaching the ground, but she loved sitting on it and being pushed around. She even managed to take one or two steps holding onto the handle, which impressed Tom and I a lot.

I've got my eye on a couple of other deals, but I'm hesitating on purchasing because even though these are pretty great price-wise, they'd have to go in storage for a few more months. I'm anticipating her walking around her first birthday...I don't know, when I put it that way, it seems silly to wait a few more months when I could purchase now. I need to do some selling on Craigslist, too, I'm finally finished clearing out the laundry room (just want to install two more shelves!!) and I have a load of things to get rid of on Craigslist and Freecycle. Tom's sister, Kate is coming to visit this weekend, so I'll probably worry about dealing with selling everything after the holiday is over.

Ohhh, Ellie, you are going to have some FUN with those! Before having kids, I scoffed at all those big toys, thinking, my kids will play with wooden blocks or just go outside...HA! Those toys are so much fun!! Glad you have all your gates set up now...I'm sure that feels great and makes it so much more relaxing for you! BTW, what is Once Upon a Child? Consignment store or something?? Whatever it is, prices look great!

Hahahha I know...I do have one friend who tries to stick to the "no batteries" rule. I kinda think she's nuts, anything that buys me a couple minutes lol. I have to say, it's always great to come to your house since you've got all the Charlotte toys, it's like we get to test drive before we buy haha

I think setting up the gates came not a moment too soon, she's crawling FAST now. Speaking of the gates, I ended up putting the one you gave us together with zip ties, I couldn't figure out how to get the holes to match up and still fit in the doorframe. I put all my weight on it, though, and it seems to hold!

And yep, Once Upon a Child is a consignment chain, you should look into it the next time you want to sell clothes! They had a TON of clothes, not quite as many toys...I saw a whole bunch of bumbos and exersaucers, but slim pickings on everything else. http://www.onceuponachild.com/ We went to the one in Manassas (actually, we meant to go to the Walmart in the same plaza, but apparently it's closed...since when do Walmarts CLOSE???).
