Anyway, last night was just crazy. Ellie and I went to the park for a little bit (more to come on that later), and sat by the creek for a bit. Of course, creeks draw in bugs, and Virginia bugs are about 10 times bigger than Connecticut bugs. They were LARGE. So a horse fly landed on Ellie and I swatted at it out of instinct and managed to pretty much slap my infant on the arm. She just kind of gave me a look like, "What the heck are ya doin', Mommy?", but it did get the horse fly off her and it didn't seem like she'd been bitten. I, on the other hand, have been nursing a huge, itchy welt on my shoulder ever since. Stupid bugs. Oh, and I thought there was a spider on me at one point, too. Which generally doesn't end well, I had to remind myself to stop just short of ripping my shirt off, considering this is a public park. That's when we decided to leave.
So after that, we stopped off a Subway, got some lunch, then headed home. Had a nice Skype with Nana, and later with Grandma and Grandpa. Tried to show off some of Ellie's new tricks ("Where is Ellie?" game, dancing, monster noises, and such), but she wasn't really cooperating. Too interested in the desk drawer. I need to try to get those on camera, it's just too cute.
Later on, I put Ellie to bed and went online to check our checking account. Lo and behold we're in the red. Significantly in the red, and getting fees withdrawn for bouncing checks. Checks to the church. Ouch. So I proceeded to completely freak out, call Tom in Atlantic City, start crying on the phone with my parents, etc. etc. The works. I finally pulled up the customer service info and found that they don't close the lines until 10pm, so I called immediately. We finally figured out what happened - I set up auto payments on our mortgage and the first one was supposed to post the beginning of May. When mid-May came and we were looking at being charged a late fee, I figured maybe the auto payment set-up wasn't initiated in time to make that first payment and I manually paid the mortgage. Well apparently, that May payment had been initiated, but because they had an old account number, they had to physically cut a check for it, which didn't get deposited until June 4. On June 11, they withdrew the funds for June's mortgage payment, meaning we paid double on the mortgage for June. After over thirty minutes on the phone with no less than four representatives and two conference calls, it was finally figured out. The payment's going to be reversed and the fees will be refunded, thank goodness. How stressful, though.
Of course, while I'm on the phone, Joey's prancing all over the place, making it pretty clear he needs to go out, but I was so distracted and needed to be on the computer with my accounts in front of me, I didn't put him out. So I walked downstairs to pee on the carpet. *eye roll* Lugged down the carpet steamer and got that cleaned up and finally ate dinner around 9pm. Got ready for bed and Miss Eleanor decides she needs a midnight snack circa 1am. Finally finished that and I was out like a light. I even fell asleep with the TV on, which never happens.
So this morning, Ellie woke me up at the crack of dawn like normal (ok, not really the crack of dawn, closer to 7am), and I went to get her up. Big smiles and happy hugs. Then I unzip her sleepsack (affectionately referred to as a fartbag in these parts - don't ask) and a foul odor hits me. Her diaper is half-off and she's covered in poop from the waist down. Took her right to the tub and scrubbed her down with the drain open so she'd have clean water. I had to wash her three times and I'm still not sure she isn't a little stinky. Have you ever tried to scrub poop out from under a baby's toenails? Who knew it'd be so tough??
She's finally clean, fed, and napping, but it was a heck of a morning and a stressful night last night. I'm looking forward to some fun girl time when Linz gets here and potentially even a trip to the pool.
