Glucose Test this Morning

It went OK...the drink wasn't that bad, it tasted a lot like those juice drinks that come in the little plastic barrels. The woman who drew my blood did a terrible job, though, I think she hit my vein sideways or something, it was very painful. That's all right, though, it's over now and I'm hoping I passed! If I fail, the next step will be to do the same thing, but with blood draws over 3 hours. If I fail that one, I'll be diagnosed with gestational diabetes and have to monitor my blood sugar and have my diet and exercise monitored. If I pass, I will have to repeat the test again around 27 weeks to make sure I haven't developed GD in that time. So cross your fingers that I've passed this first one!

Our weekend was pretty similar, some parts were great and some parts were just painful. On Saturday we drove down to Richmond to participate in the VA Republican Convention and cast our votes. Due to some mishaps in not bringing any cash, we weren't able to get anything to eat all day. Not to mention those seats really aren't the best on a pregnant body. The whole thing was just a little too much for me, so I napped a bit on the way home. We were very happy to see Ken Cuccinelli win the nomination for Attorney General in just one vote! We thought we'd have to go to a second round since there were three people vying for the spot.

A few of the speeches were very good, as well, and one young cadet from VA Tech named Adnan Barqawi stole the show. He brought the house down and earned a standing ovation for his speech on patriotism and what it is to be a naturalized American citizen. His speech, which is in two parts, can now be seen on YouTube and here - I'd encourage everyone to watch it.

On Sunday, Tom and I headed out to Bethesda for some lunch and swimming with Matt and Lindsey. We intended to finish up the painting in the baby's room that afternoon, but were so exhausted from our weekend at that point, that we just decided to put it off another week. That's OK, we'll just take care of it this weekend, instead!

Tomorrow is our halfway point! And on Friday we have our next midwife appointment!
