Finally Got Our Windows!

OK, OK, I know this is like the eleventy billionth post of the day, but I promise it'll be the last one and then I'll go back to a somewhat normal schedule. You should have known I'd have a lot to get caught up on with my last post being over a week ago!

Yesterday we got new windows installed! This is our second major renovation project (the first was getting new pipes put in...I forget what was wrong with the original ones exactly, but the basic gist of it was that the material used in making them was prone to breaking, which can cause extensive water damage), and the first that we can really enjoy and show off, so I'm going to do just that! I was really happy with how the installation was done, a crew of three men came and worked from about 10am to 6pm or so and boy, did they work hard! They did an excellent job and even went above and beyond in the kitchen. The previous homeowner had installed some cheap pre-fab trim to the kitchen window. When the tech had come a month or so ago to take final measurements, he told me they'd have to take it down. Well, not only did they take down the cheap trim, but they cut and installed new trim in its place! The new trim fits the window casing much better, which actually makes the window look bigger! I'll have to paint it at some point, but I just love that they did it in the first place! So here are some of our new windows:

Bay window in the dining room.

Picture window in the kitchen.

See the new trim? The old trim hung over the window itself...this will need painting, but it looks MUCH better!

Window with safety latches on - dogs and children will NOT be falling out our windows!

Windows tilt in for easy cleaning. You can really tell they are slightly tinted in this pic...something about the UV rays not coming in. They also have some kind of coating that makes rain water bead up and fall off them. Oh, and the screen is really see-through-able.

Screen slides up so you can open the top half of the window...I LOVE THIS FEATURE. We have very long windows, especially in the living room, and Joey spends about 80% of his day looking out them. Whenever another dog walks by, he gets very excited and barks, and sometimes even digs at the screen to try and get at the other dog. Being able to open the top half allows me to have the windows open without worrying about Joey jumping through a screen. I'm sure it'll be great when Ellie's fully mobile, too.

It's so nice to have all the windows open, especially on a day like today with such a beautiful breeze, and not worry about bugs getting in or Joey getting out. In fact, we actually had two windows that couldn't be opened due to missing screens, and several more with huge gaps in the screens that allowed bugs in. It's also great to just have beautiful-looking windows without all the nasty aluminum trim stuff. And these new ones are so secure! Our old windows could actually be pushed in with one hand, allowing anyone easy access to our home. The new windows have a steel support bar inside to make the locks ultra-safe. Anyway, I absolutely love them...the windows were such a big gripe of mine before that I'm very happy to have the new ones in! I think our next big project will be the kitchen, but considering it took us two years to get this project completed, I'd say it'll be at least another two before we get the kitchen done.
