Yay!!!!
Ellie and I made a quick trip to the doctor's office on Thursday morning to see how her weight is doing now that she's breastfeeding full time. She's up to 5lb 1oz!!! Her weight gain is perfect, just on track with what they'd like to see, and we got the green light to breastfeed her from now on. The experiment was a success! The pediatrician also commented on Ellie's great neck control and muscle tone (and her cute sleeper - I'll have to get a pic of it before she grows out of it).
It makes me feel so happy and proud that we've been able to move up to full-time breastfeeding because, as any mom of a preemie will attest, there are just so many more hurdles in the way than with an average baby. First and foremost, I wasn't even allowed to see my baby until well over twelve hours after her birth. My first - and for a long time only - experiences with breastfeeding were with the hospital's Ameda rental pump. When Ellie ate her first milliliters, it was formula, and it was through a tube in her nose. When I finally had enough milk for her (24 hours later than normal due to the C-section), it was from a bottle. In fact, most of her meals for the first 2 weeks of her life were either put through her nose or fed to her by a nurse. It took a lot of patience and persistance and there were days when I wanted to give up and just give her formula, but we are finally past that and are now working as a team, just how nature intended. It feels amazing.

I just got your card!!!!! You're welcome!!! I'm so glad that Ellie can wear her outfits now, and that she used up all her diapers :-)
Do you always have to buy the Preemie diapers online? Or have you found someplace close by that sells them?
Well, it's easier to order online b/c it's cheaper and they come right to our door within a couple of days, otherwise we have to figure out who is going to BRU, when we're going, etc. Target and our grocery store don't sell preemie diapers. And I actually bought Target out of their newborn Huggies, too last time I was there...it was only 2 packages.
