Poor baby...when she first came home from the hospital, she just slept almost all the time. Then for a few weeks she'd be awake and alert, and fuss a little sometimes, but generally was a pretty good-natured baby. The past week she's been getting progressively more and more cranky and now it's to the point where sometimes we can't get her to stop crying. It's not often, but it's still pretty heartbreaking.
So I think she's having some acid reflux issues. The vast majority of preemies do have reflus problems, so it's not unexpected, but I still feel bad for her. It's hard to see her screaming and clearly in pain and be unable to do anything about it. We've been trying a few different remedies this week to see if we could avoid a trip to the doctor's office with all the swine flu going around, but I'm throwing in the towel at this point. I called the doctor this morning and we're going to try to get her an appointment this week either first thing in the morning or right after lunch.

I'm not sure if preemies do the whole growth spurt thing like full term babies, but she could be going through one. Harper was always extra fussy & more difficult during hers and I'd jump straight to thinking something was wrong but all she really needed was to be fed more often.
Of course it is always better to be safe than sorry so hopefully you'll get some answers at the pedis.
::shaking my fist @ reflux::
GACK! Tell me how it goes. I hope she's okay! We have one baby with it right now, she has to be held or placed upright (like in the exersaucer) for 20 minutes after feeding, to reduce the acid reflux. Maybe that will help?? I know she's no where near exersaucer ready but if you held her? Good luck!!!
Does she spit up a lot? I know they don't necessarily have to to have it but that was a sure sign that Charlotte had it pretty bad. Zantac helped immensely for us, though, and she was off of it by 5 or 6 months I think. Good luck!!
Christie - they do have growth spurts, but I'm pretty sure she does have reflux, unfortunately. She'll be in the middle of eating and just stop to SCREAM :( That and a few other symptoms lead me to believe it's more than a growth spurt. We'll see what the pediatrician says on Wednesday morning.
Audrey - we do try to do that, but it's not always practical. Like she's sleeping in her swing, which is semi-reclined, at night. Plus she isn't bottle-fed, so I can't feed her sitting up, she's pretty much in a full recline when I feed her. And it doesn't seem to help much. It seems like it's either going to happen or it isn't.
Abby - not too often, but I know some does come up and she swallows it back down a lot. I can see it in her mouth. Did you see any side effects from the Zantac?
Screaming in the middle of a feeding could definitely be a sign. We had no side effects from Zantac.
