OK, so a funny story about this picture. I wanted to also try and get a good one of her with the teddy and/or her stuffed purple hippo in the recliner in her room. I got this one shot off and she started yelling at me, so I decided to give her some milk to calm her down again before I tried to get the other pictures done. I pull out the bottle and sit down with her on my lap and start to feed her. At that point, she let go an explosive poo, which promptly blew out of the diaper and onto my jeans (the only ones that currently fit, I might add). I called Tom up and we stripped her down and washed her butt off...then, as I was carrying her back into her room for a fresh diaper (why didn't we bring one with us to the bathroom???), she let go a stream of pee all over the carpet. So operation Month 1 pictures was aborted and this is the only one I got. Oh well.
We've been really busy this week. On Monday we had an appointment to get an ultrasound done on her hips to check for dysplasia since she was in a breech position when she was born. The ultrasound ended up fine, and both of the techs were very nice. We told them about Ellie's birth and they were blown away. One of the techs said the lowest biophysical profile score she'd ever seen was a 2 out of 8, and that she generally never sees anything less than a 4 out of 8; Ellie was a 0 out of 8. Then on Tuesday evening, my boss and coworker stopped by to meet Ellie. They thought she was absolutely adorable and brought her some gifts. On Wednesday morning, Ellie and I had an appointment for a lactation consultation at the doctor's office. The LC seems to think we will be able to get breastfeeding down if we just stick with it, but it is a lot of work.
Now that Ellie is approaching her due date (Oct 21), she is beginning to act more like a newborn and less like a preemie. She's becoming more alert and active during the day and, unfortunately, waking more often during the night. The last two nights were pretty awful in terms of how much sleep Tom and I got. I think she may be hitting a growth spurt, since she seems to want to eat more often than usual. She may also be gassy. I've been trying mylicon drops, which seem to help, and I'm going to try cutting dairy out of my diet for a couple of weeks, since that can be a big offender in making babies gassy. I hope that's not the case, I like my milk and it's really good for replacing the calcium lost with breastfeeding!
Weight: 4lb 12oz
Length: 17 in
Size: Preemie
Milestones: Ellie can hold her head up for brief periods of time. She's becoming interested in her toys. She can hold her pacifier in her mouth (though she definitely isn't coordinated enough to put it back in if it falls out).
Likes: Ellie loves being in her wrap and I've found that that's the easiest way to get things done, especially if we have to leave the house. She's still so tiny that putting her in the wrap is much more convenient than lugging around her infant carrier on most occasions. She also loves her binkys, especially the Soothie kind.
Dislikes: Despite the new bouts of crying brought on by the gassiness, there really still aren't too many things that Ellie dislikes. It can take her a few minutes to warm up to tummy time, but she generally gets over that quickly.
