No sleep tonight :(

It is quarter to five in the morning and I still haven't gone to bed yet. Ugh.

Ellie generally will have a period during the afternoon where she wants to cluster feed and eat every 2 hours or so for a few cycles, and it's usually around 1pm to 4pm or so. Well, today that lasted from 11am through to 3:30am. At around 3pm, I decided that she was just nursing for comfort, since she'd been eating on and off for literally hours, so I gave her her binky instead and rocked her in the rocker until she fell asleep. Then I got a few more minutes when Tom let her sleep on his chest. Then she was back up and grumping for the rest of the night.

We went up to bed around 10:30pm and did our normal routine - diaper change, eat, read the going to bed book, go to bed. But it quickly became apparent that it was going to be one of those nights. The ones where she wakes and cries every 15 minutes. It's endlessly frustrating to be woken up from the cusp of sleep again and again and again, so I did that for about an hour or so, then at 1am decided to just give up and go down to the basement. So I held her, which does calm her for a few hours, then when she finally fell asleep, I put her in her bouncy chair and tried to get some sleep again. 3:30am, woken up by screams. So I gave up again. Now I'm surfing the internets and watching Christmas QVC and wondering when I'll be able to get some sleep. It's days like this when I wish I drank coffee.

Anyway, she's generally a much better sleeper than this, she'll usually wake up, diaper change, eat, right back to bed, but for some reason today has just been awful. She seems a LOT bigger within this past week, so it may just be a growth spurt or something of the sort. Or maybe she's just cranky. Who knows? I'm just exhausted and really looking forward to the night that she lets me sleep all night long.
