This week has been just dragging...I have no idea why. Well, maybe I do. It's been pretty slow here at work, so with not much to keep me busy, I've just been bored all the time. Plus, Tom has been out of town the past couple of nights. He had to go speak at a conference in Annapolis. Good for him, but I miss my hubby! He'll be back this afternoon.
I think the plan is to go on a date this weekend! I really want to see "I Love You, Man" and that new Nicholas Cage movie. There's also a new scary flick coming out that's about a haunted house in CT, so I think that'd be fun to see. We were also talking about taking baby on his/her first golfing expedition, but it sounds like it'll be raining on and off all weekend.
I also have to get our guest room and hall bath prepared for a guest!! One of Tom's good college friends is flying out from Long Island to stay for the weekend in mid-April. Since we'll be out of town from April 4-8, I'd like to try and get the majority of the work done before we leave. Especially since that includes going out and purchasing a few items for the bathroom like I've been planning to do for the past couple of months.
Fortunately, I received some cash at work last week, so I can spend a little less to get a little more! We have a program here in my unit where you can be recognized by peers and coworkers for good work done and given a $25 American Express gift card. One of my coworkers out in Oklahoma decided to recognize me! I really don't think I was doing anything that went above and beyond, just trying to be helpful.
On another good work note, I was able to secure FMLA coverage for someone we didn't think would have the coverage a couple of weeks ago! It's times like that I love being in HR. Basically, if you work at a place less than one year, you are not entitled to FMLA coverage. In this woman's case, she was having a baby. So she'd be on disability for 6-8 weeks, but if she wanted to take any more time than that (and she wanted 12 weeks), her job would not be protected and she would lose her insurance benefits. But, she had previously worked at the company a few years ago! So, I was able to look up a court case and subsequent amendment to the FMLA law that provided for all time worked at a company throughout the past seven years to be counted towards FMLA leave. So now she's covered!
