I think I made out pretty well! The biggest deals of the day were the DVD and the books for a total of $11.00 after tax from the huge used book store I happened to find when I accidentally turned into the wrong parking lot trying to get to Target. The DVD I actually managed to get down to $.99 after one coupon from Disney and 2 mail-in rebates from Band-Aid and Success Rice. I also had coupons for the Band-Aids, bringing the two boxes I had to buy to get the rebate down to $.72 each! Plus, Success Rice is usually $1.50 each at Shoppers, or 2 for $3.00. I have a $1/2 coupon and after the double at this weekend's Shopper's double/triple event, that's $2 off, for a grand total of $.50 each for the rice. What a steal! Oh, and the chocolate eggs are for the Easter Bunny. If Santa gets cookies, surely the Bunny gets eggs.
I'm so ahead of the game for this holiday, I even managed to pull it all together while Ellie took a super long nap for me that afternoon! Usually I'm really last-minute with this kind of stuff, but I had an idea of what I wanted to do with the pail and it seemed like such a fun project I couldn't wait to dig in. And it was! Here's the finished product:
It was actually super easy to do using my new favorite "toy", Modge Podge! I used Modge Podge last month to make our Family Rules canvas and thought it was just so cool, I've been itching to use it on something else ever since! To make this, I cut 12x12 scrapbook paper down to about 8.5x12 so it would fit in my printer. In a Word document, I chose a font and typed Ellie's name, then used WordArt to change the letters to outlines and create a mirror image of the word. Then I printed directly on the back of the scrapbook paper, and cut out the letters. Using Modge Podge, I stuck the letters to the pail, then sealed with 2-3 more layers of Modge Podge. After I was finished, it still looked like it was missing something (and it was a little off center!) so I decided to cut the flower out of another page of scrapbook paper and use the same method to decoupage it to the pail, too. Then I cut the ribbons in half and tied them on and that was it! Done! It was such a fun project and turned out so cute, I just had to share!
