First Birth Class

Yesterday evening, Tom and I had our very first birthing class. It's taught in the hospital I'll be delivering in and it's three hours long, which is kind of a lot. It's based on Marie Mongan's method of hypnobirthing and I'm really hoping I'll be able to get the hang of it so I can go natural when the time comes.

The beginning of the class was just basic introduction and getting to know you type stuff, and the teacher told us about her qualifications and whatnot. Then we discussed the history of birthing methods and hypnobirthing in particular, then practiced relaxation with a hypnosis script, then watched a couple of actual births.

It was good, but I think I'm definitely going to have to work on the relaxation bit. I am argumentative to my own detriment at times and this is definitely one of those times. I just couldn't fully "go there", and I had a hard time being aware of my body without getting nervous, which kind of defeats the purpose. But Tom was great at it, so hopefully if we keep practicing, I'll be able to get the hang of it eventually. I think we might try another script ourselves at home to see if that helps.

We also cleaned out our storage/laundry room this weekend, which I am so happy about! We still had two boxes that hadn't really been touched from when we moved in, plus a bunch of stuff that we decided we could part with. Now we're not entirely sure what we want to do with all of it...we were discussing a yard sale, but it's pretty late in the season and that seems like a lot of work. If we did that, we'd have to do it this weekend. Our other option is to list the bigger items on Craigslist and give the rest to Goodwill. We may end up doing that. Whatever the case, our laundry room is so much more functional now, it's GREAT!
