It's hot, so this will probably be short and sweet so I can go hang out (nap?) in the basement.
This week has been crazy busy. I way overdid things and now need to spend the entire weekend relaxing, doctor's orders! That's OK by me - I was going to get the basement cleaned out, but that'll just have to get pushed back again. That's fine, Ellie won't be living in the basement, so I'm sure she won't care if it's cleaned out or not.
We had our 25 week appt today, our last appt of the 2nd trimester. It went really well! Ellie's heartbeat is great, my blood pressure was fine and I'm measuring right on target. I also did my second glucose test, and I should have the results from that on Monday. I hope I passed!!!! Our next appt is July 31, and then we start going twice a month until September.
I definitely have learned that I need to start slowing down. The HR team for my unit got together for our annual strategy session this week, which generally means early mornings and late nights. On Tuesday, I didn't get home until after midnight, then on Wednesday I was out again until after 10pm. Combine that with getting up at 5:30am to get in on time and it'd be enough to wear out anyone. But the heat and all the extra exertion really did a number on my feet - they swelled up especially badly after we did a monuments tour on Tuesday night and they just haven't been right since. So this weekend I'll be hydrating, elevating, and lots of lounging. I'm considering buying one of those blow-up kiddie pools so I can just float out in the backyard.
I also have another fun new symptom of late - my hands have been falling asleep at night. ALL NIGHT. According to my midwife, this is just another symptom of swelling and is pretty normal given that I'm approaching the third trimester and since we're in July. Granted the weather has been amazing for DC in the summer, but it's still July, and it's still pretty darn hot. And thanks to my short torso, Ellie's already just inches from the bottom of my sternum, so eating big meals is pretty quickly becoming a thing of the past. At this point, I'm a little nervous - she's going to get so much bigger in the next 15 weeks, and I still have a long way to go.
How far along? 25 weeks down, 15 more to go!
Best moment this week? Hearing her heart beat, and hearing (on the doppler) a little kick at the same time I felt it.
What I am looking forward to: Resting up this weekend and hopefully getting some of the swelling in my feet to subside.
Weekly Wisdom: Waking up and not being able to feel your hands is completely normal. It's also very strange - the other morning I was trying to turn off my alarm and couldn't do it because I couldn't feel it. WEIRD!
