Finally :)
In complementary colors. Probably brown trunk, cream "leaves", and orange bird. We'll see, I'll get the details of that ironed out when I get the room painted.
I was also going to do a couple framed prints, but now I think I'll have to see how it looks with all this up - if there are any "bare" spots, I'll find some cute prints then.
The way I generally decorate my rooms is to first more or less completely design the room in my head. I spend a lot of time thinking about exactly how I will want the room to look, what kinds of fabrics I'd like to have, how to position furniture, etc. Then, I set to work making the room look as close to what I have in my mind as possible.
So far, that's been tough to do with the baby's room because there are just so many great options out there. We knew we wanted to make the room gender-neutral. We also want bright, fun colors, and we both agree that we like the colors green and orange in combination. But do you realize how many options that still leaves?! It's crazy.
Anyway, I've really been liking the look of this mobile:
for pretty much forever. I just couldn't figure out exactly how to incorporate that look into our nursery and make everything look not only age-appropriate for the baby, but also coherent for us and fitting in our home. But this morning I had a nice little brainstorm and I think now I know what I want.

Directly as you walk in the door, on the wall on the outside of the closet, I'm going to put this growth chart:

The birds will also be in tones of green, orange, and cream. I'm going to find a small pillow and a floor lamp to match the colors and brightness of the room.
Over the dresser, I'd like to do something like this:
Those are vintage alphabet cards hung on a clothesline. So cute, and I love that it's educational, too. Martha Stewart actually makes some really cute ones. Plus, I think those cards plus the hand-sewn birdies will really make the room have sort of a vintage feel, which is perfect since the dresser dad is making also has vintage styles.
