We've Created a Monster

Please reference item no. 1 in the previous post.

Ellie will NOT sleep in her crib or cradle, and it's much worse than I thought. Last night we tried to get her to sleep in her cradle and I assumed she'd have some complaints. I was totally unprepared for the flat-out WAR it started. She literally cried the whole time she was in the cradle, from about 11pm on. I lost track of the time after 3am, but I do know that at some point, we gave up on the cradle and put her back in her swing. Where she proceeded to sleep until 10am.

So this teaches me two things. First, it's going to be waaaaaaaaay harder than I thought. And second, she's clearly capable of sleeping longer than the 3-4 hours that we're currently getting from her, since I know we definitely put her in the swing well before 6am. Once again the preemie thing makes it difficult here because I can't just Google how long a two-and-a-half-month-old baby should be awake between naps, nor can I Google how long a one-month-old should be awake. Neither is entirely appropriate. So I'm just going to try to play with her more and keep her up a bit after she eats.

As for the sleeping in the cradle, we're working to address that issue as well. I put a small pillow underneath the mattress to prop it upright a bit. Perhaps the real issue is her acid reflux giving her pain when she lies flat. I'm not sure I'm a big fan of that explanation, though, since she'll lay flat perfectly fine in our bed. Other than that, we'll just have to stick with it. I have a feeling it's better to get it over with now instead of letting her get more and more used to sleeping just in her swing, but man, it's tough not getting any sleep.
