Last Saturday - We had the privilege of participating in the annual holiday wreath-laying at Arlington National Cemetary. It was bitterly cold, and the speeches were very long, but it felt good to be there to honor the men and women who gave their lives to protect us. Over 3,000 people participated and over 10,000 wreaths were donated. "Our" soldiers both fought in - and survived - WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam. Incredible.
Last Sunday - I spent the whole day baking! I made caramel and chocolate covered pretzels, peppermint bark, oatmeal raisin cookies, rice krispies treats, and chocolate chip cookies (with a secret ingredient)!! I can't believe I didn't get any photos - they were all really yummy.
Friday - We exchanged our gifts! Joey got a stuffed animal to tear into, a dinosaur-shaped nylabone, a sweater, and a new jacket. I got some much-needed new clothing. Tom got a new camcorder, and we've been having lots of fun playing around with it ever since! Hopefully I can figure out how to upload the video onto the computer and share some clips with you all. We got some really funny video of Joey trying to run in all this snow - it's up past his shoulders, so he has to do this funny little bunny hop to get around :)
Saturday - We made the big trek home. We made really good time for most of the trip (and we should have, since we left before 5AM!!), but once we hit Connecticut traffic really slowed down. The roads were terrible. Apparently, it snowed all day Friday and straight through to Saturday, so the plows could only do so much. We saw probably 6 or so cars that had slid off the road around New Haven all in one two mile stretch. It finally stopped snowing Sunday evening. I think we're somewhere around 15 inches.
Sunday - It was so nice to just spend the whole day relaxing with our families. We hung out with my dad and brother for a while and watched a movie, then Tom had dinner with his parents and I ate with mine, then I headed back to the Skypeks' for a round of Seinfeld Scene It! We LOVE that game, we've got the original edition, Harry Potter, Disney, and the Seinfeld one.
And today, I'm planning on visiting with my good friend Audrey all day! I cannot wait to see her, it's been far too long. I think we're going to get some lunch and go see the Twilight movie. I wasn't really into the book, but I really love to see books made into movies, so I'm looking forward to it.
And now I'll leave you with some beautiful snowy pictures!
