No, not Sting the musician, a sting as in "A complicated confidence game planned and executed with great care, especially an operation organized and implemented by undercover agents to apprehend criminals."
We were taking 66W to go from Arlington to Centreville around 4:30pm last night and it was taking FOR.EV.ER. Like just a ridiculous amount of time, it was so backed up. And of course, there were plenty of HOV offenders (for those who don't know, 66 is entirely HOV during rush hour). We like to pick out the HOV offenders and stare at them when we're driving home because it's those people who make our commute Hell.
So, we get to the junction of 66 and 495, which is right where HOV ends, and there was literally a bank of cop cars. There were probably ten cop cars and just as many HOV offenders pulled over. There were a couple of cops shining flashlights in all the cars and pulling over the offenders. It was AMAZING. Coolest thing ever. I wish they'd do it more often, then maybe our commute wouldn't be so bad. I just wish I had a camera so I could show you all.
It made such a huge difference, too, as soon as we were out of that bottleneck, 66 cleared right up. I'd be willing to bet they'll be doing it again today, too, since it's the day before Thanksgiving and so many people will be headed out of the city for the holiday.
