OK, fine, so it's more subtle than I thought....but I think she looks bigger!
So we've been on a bit of a roller coaster this month with Ellie's health. Well, not her health exactly, but her weight, that one issue that's been nagging at us since we left the NICU. When we left at her 4 month appointment, we were told to try and give her a few bottles a day of formula, just to see what that'd do to her weight, since she had gained again in the two previous weeks. She never seemed to want the formula when I'd offer it, so when we went back, Tom and I were confident that she'd continued gaining. Unfortunately, she hadn't. After much soul-searching, several trips to lactation consultants, and the rental of both a breast pump and a scale, we decided that Ellie would be both breast- and formula-fed. For now she seems to get around 9oz per day from me and another 9oz or so of formula, so about 50/50. We'll continue this way until I dry up, hopefully not for many months yet. We've also graduated to sleeping fully in the crib, with no pillows or anything else, and no swaddle. Oh, and she also kicked the binky! She just didn't seem to want it anymore.
Besides various appointments for Eleanor, we also experienced a few major snowstorms this month. Our heating bill for January was just astronomical, and I'm very afraid to see this month's bill. The heat pump usually isn't too bad for us, even in the height of winter, but it just can't cope with so many days in the 30's and nights well below freezing. Not to mention the icicles growing from the roof are pushing the gutters away from the house, so that's another thing that'll have to get fixed in the near term. I'm hoping we'll have some money from our taxes this year and that'll be put towards new windows and some general maintenance we need to have done. But anyway, back to Ellie!
Weight: 10lbs
Height:
Size: 0-3 for shirts and dresses, newborn for pants
Milestones: It is always fun to come back and read the previous months' milestones when I update this field. This month Ellie's new accomplishments include plenty of tummy to back rolling, sitting unassisted in my lap, and our favorite, laughing! She's still pretty stingy on the laughs, but it's so funny, just like a "Ha!" We also started solids this month. So far she's had rice cereal, green beans, and carrots and green beans appear to be her favorite! Good girl, eating those veggies!
Likes: Ellie really loves getting to meet new people. She totally understands when she's being paid a compliment, too, she always smiles really big when people tell her how cute she is. She also loves music and loves to "sing". We discovered this not too long ago when Tom and I were goofing around with her and singing "YMCA". At first, she would cry every time Tom would sing it. Naturally, we kept doing it ;-) and eventually instead of crying, she'd chime in with "oooh oooh coooh!" So cute. Now it seems like she'll do it maybe 8 times out of 10 for Tom, and very rarely for me. Interesting anecdote - when I was pregnant with her, my voice changed a bit. I'd constantly have people asking me if I had a sore throat because it was kind of hoarse. It's gotten better since having her, but I still don't have the range I used to. Not that I was ever any big singer, but at least I could keep up with the songs on the radio in my car. I think Ellie stole my singing voice a la "The Little Mermaid".
Dislikes: This is always the hardest category, because there really isn't too much she doesn't like at the moment. Oh, our fire alarm accidentally went off a few days ago, and it made her cry, so I guess you could say she didn't like that. Joey didn't like it, either, he started barking like crazy and trying to find it...of course, he didn't think to look at the ceiling!
